As we covered earlier in our article around the first wave of hotfixes for Season of Death Awakening addressed some immediate launch problems like Uber Mephisto progression and stability issues. Blizzard’s Diablo IV team has now released another round of small updates with patches 3.1.1 on July 14 and 3.1.1a on July 16. This latest patch continues the pattern of targeted adjustments rather than major overhauls.
The changes focus on smoothing out some of the friction around Mythic Uniques and seasonal rewards that players have been discussing since the season began. Naturally dropped Mythics now have a slightly better chance to roll as Iconic versions, and a bug preventing certain sources (including Lair Bosses) from dropping Mythics has been fixed. The blacksmith’s Mythic cache also received El’Druin, Sword of Justice.
One nearly universally celebrated change in 3.1.1a is the removal of the “one-crafted Mythic” restriction. This restriction had been applied to ALL sources of crafted mythics including those crafted from sparks at the jeweler and blacksmith, making resplendent sparks all but worthless.

Pandemonium Fragment acquisition saw incremental improvements. Corrupted Reaper drops up to two fragments depending on Torment level, and the repeatable Glints of Hope reputation reward now guarantees one. The cost to upgrade a Unique into a Mythic at the Horadric Cube dropped from five fragments to four. Deathtoll Chambers now guarantee at least one Superior Lair Key in higher Torment difficulties, making them more worthwhile to run.
Additional bug fixes landed across several classes and general systems in 3.1.1. These are the kinds of quality-of-life patches that typically arrive a couple of weeks into a season once the most obvious launch problems have been handled.
For players already pushing endgame content, these tweaks make the Mythic chase and fragment farming feel marginally more consistent. The reduced crafting cost and guaranteed rewards from reputation turn-ins help players who were feeling stuck on the progression treadmill. New players or those returning later in the season get a slightly less punishing entry point into the new systems.
Many D4 players have been critical of these changes. Some feel the adjustments are too minor to meaningfully shift the season’s trajectory, especially when class balance gaps remain wide and the core Mythic crafting system still carries significant RNG elements that the patch does not touch. Most notable is the strong outcry over getting a random mythic unique when using the “upgrade” option in the Horradric Cube, rather then upgrading the supplied unique to a mythic. Blizzard has openly acknowledged this complaint and has said that Season 15 will add a ” direct upgrade to Mythic that preserves the original Unique Item. “
Some players had been excited at the prospect of greater rarity feeling that “chase items” were now back in play. Others still have pointed out that bigger systemic issues around endgame rewards and build diversity were left unaddressed in favor of smaller fixes.
This patch shows Blizzard is still actively monitoring the season and responding to feedback, which is better than radio silence. At the same time, it reinforces that the team is taking a cautious approach rather than making sweeping alterations midway through. If the goal was to reduce frustration around Mythic acquisition, the changes deliver a modest improvement. Whether that is enough to keep momentum going for the rest of the season remains to be seen.
