Moon Beast Productions is an independent game development studio focused on creating action role-playing games (ARPGs). Established in 2021, the studio was born out of a deep passion for the ARPG genre, with its team boasting over two decades of experience in building some of the most influential titles in the field. Moon Beast Productions aims to innovate and improve upon the genre, recognizing untapped opportunities for enhancement in gameplay, mechanics, and player engagement. They emphasize their dedication to ARPGs as being “in their blood,” and are actively seeking talented individuals to join their team in this ongoing adventure.
The studio was founded by industry veterans Phil Shenk, Peter Hu, and Erich Schaefer, who have played pivotal roles in shaping the ARPG landscape. Erich Schaefer co-created the Diablo series, serving as lead designer for both Diablo and Diablo II, and later contributed to games like Torchlight. Phil Shenk was the lead artist on Diablo II, defining its iconic dark fantasy aesthetic, while Peter Hu served as the lead designer on the same title. The team also includes other notable developers such as Brian Fitzgerald and Anthony Rivero, who worked on Diablo and Diablo II, bringing extensive experience from these landmark games that revolutionized the genre.
Their current project, Darkhaven is an upcoming ARPG designed to redefine the genre through procedural generation and extensive moddability. Interested players can sign up for future playtests to get early access and contribute to its development. The team recently allowed a limited playtest which produced a lot of streams and videos!
